How Does Marijuana Grow?

Posted on March 12, 2024

Marijuana cultivation involves providing plants with all of the necessities for success from seed to harvest, including ample light, food and water; good air circulation and sufficient humidity levels. Regardless of its environment – be it cabinet, closet or outdoor garden – cannabis requires adequate light, food and humidity levels in order to thrive and produce resin soaked buds of high quality resin quality. In order to do this successfully it requires adequate lighting, food, humidity control as well as adequate airflow circulation in order to thrive successfully.

Marijuana plants begin as tender seedlings that require plenty of warmth, sunlight, moist soil and an environment without excessive moisture to prevent diseases such as botrytis (grey mold). As soon as a seed sprouts it produces two flat, broad leaves known as cotyledon leaves which absorb solar energy to support development of its young shoot. Once seven sets of pointed leaves have emerged from this initial growth stage it enters vegetative development and moves on into vegetative growth. At this stage, marijuana plants will experience rapid expansion both in size and height, and may be transplanted to larger pots or a different growing environment such as Sea Of Green grow technique. At this stage, marijuana must be fed through either friable soil mix or hydroponic systems rich in nutrients specifically tailored for marijuana growth.

As marijuana plants develop, their roots will expand into the growing medium, siphoning off water and nutrients available to it. A good organic mix, including compost, living organisms and minerals can improve its quality; many growers also rely on custom blended nutrients specifically tailored for each strain of marijuana they cultivate.

To successfully cultivate marijuana outdoors, cultivators must choose an ideal location and climate that complements their chosen strain. When selecting an area to cultivate cannabis outdoors it is best to select one with plenty of sunlight that’s shielded from wind, rain and dust; those interested in guerrilla farming may use more covert methods such as hiding their plants in forest clearings or on mountain cliffs so as to not be discovered by passersby.

Once marijuana plants reach maturity, they will naturally trigger flowering as the approaching winter brings shorter daylight hours and this process is known as photoperiod induced blooming. If a cultivator wants their crops to bloom sooner rather than waiting, 12 hours of darkness every day may help initiate it manually.

After marijuana plants enter flowering mode, they produce fragrant, sticky buds that should be harvested and placed into clean mason jars or similar containers for curing. Curing helps develop aroma and flavor specific to each strain and strain. Once ready for consumption or vaping, the buds can then be opened and closed several times daily in order to release excess moisture and prevent spoilage due to overwetting. The process usually lasts 2-3 months depending on breed/growing conditions – during this period it should be opened/closed several times to allow moisture escaping and avoid spoilage due to overwetting or spoilage caused by overwetting of any excess moisture escaping and potentially spoilage from overwetting of any one side or both sides being affected.
